perrygapublicsafetyLt. James Buck oversees the Community Services and Training Division. James began his career in law enforcement with the United States Air Force in 1979. He was stationed around the world and served in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. While stationed at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, he began his civilian law enforcement experience with the Bureau of Marine Resources (Reserve) Law Enforcement Division, State of Mississippi from 1986-1989 and also with the Ocean Springs Police Department (Reserve), Ocean Springs, Mississippi, from 1989-1992. He retired from thr Air Force after a successful career in 1999. James joined the Perry Police Department in April of 1999. During his career with Perry, he has served as a patrol officer, patrol sergeant, and patrol lieutenant before assuming his current position. 

James’ educational background includes an associate degree in airway science and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He has completed the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College and is completing work for a master's degree. He has been awarded the Perry Rotary Club Officer of the Year, the Warner Robins Optimist Club Police Officer of the Year and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Officer of the Year.

James is married to his bride of 31 years, Lynn, who is a school teacher and they have one son, James III, who is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Recreation and Tourism.
